When you ask the High Falls family, “What are you most proud of?”, the response starts with a big smile as they share our seed to soul story and their part in it. Every member of our team has tremendous pride in the history behind each and every product that is grown on our farm in High Falls, New York.
It would be an oversight to not share with you the pride we have in where our products are grown. You may not think it matters, but it’s our family farm and our process is paramount. But, to understand that, we should start at the very beginning.
High Falls, New York is a beautiful hamlet nestled in Ulster County, New York, within the Catskill region. The city takes its name from the nearby feature on the Rondout Creek, where the creek cuts through a large rock formation and goes over a large waterfall.
This was an attractive source of water power, and millers were drawn to it from colonial times. It’s location, at a key water crossing, inclusive of the John A. Roebling aqueduct, remained important for decades in the industrialization era. This is also a place where our nation’s natural element, cement was discovered!
Over time, High Falls was transformed from a small industrial, rural community town to a bustling city after the canal was expanded in 1850 to handle big barges transporting materials.
Given its location, it established itself as a haven for local farmers and businesses to flourish. We are proud to have established our farm in this sprawling valley that provides the best Mother Earth has to offer with seasons and plant-life to grow our esteemed products and deliver them to your door!
And, if you are thinking about a weekend escape, High Falls in the heart of the bountiful Hudson Valley, is the place! Beautiful hills and fields with mountain vistas serve as the perfect getaway or place for a second home. Incredible shops, stores, hotels, and restaurants that cater to our local, small-town residents, and those that visit are treated like family!
